Description
A wine tasting in Monteriggioni takes place inside the Poggio ai Laghi wine shop, on the square within the castle walls. It is a cosy room with a few tables indoors and outdoors, and the tasting lasts about an hour and a half. A wine expert hosts it and tells the story of Donna Ava, the lady with her maids, between one glass and the next.
The wines come first:
- Arella, a sparkling cuvée in the extra dry style
- Oletta, a DOCG Chianti Riserva
- Lucilla, a DOCG Chianti Classico
- Aranda, an IGT Super Tuscan
Next come the estate's other products: two vinegars (a balsamic from Modena and a red onion one) and three extra virgin olive oils: the classic, a white truffle and a chili pepper. The cheese is Tuscan pecorino in two ages, aged and semi-aged, served with the vinegars. Toasted bruschetta is seasoned with the different oils, and a wild boar salami finishes the platter.
The idea is a tasting that tells you about the craft behind each product as you go. English and Italian are spoken.
