Description

A Brunello di Montalcino wine tour from Siena by minivan: three wineries, the hill town and its fortress, Sant'Antimo Abbey and a lunch at a family-run estate.

The Brunello di Montalcino wine tour from Siena is a long day on the famous wine hill. You travel by minivan with an English-speaking local guide, and the day is built around three wineries.

The first visit takes you through the vineyards and into the cellars where the wine is made and aged, followed by an introductory tasting. Then you spend time in the hilltop town of Montalcino, with its medieval fortress, shops and streets, and views of valleys and vineyards.

Lunch is a traditional Tuscan meal at a family-run winery, with the wines produced there. After it the road leads to the ancient Abbey of Sant'Antimo, a Benedictine abbey in open countryside.

  • Three Brunello wineries, each with a tasting
  • Cellars, oak barrels and a talk with the winemakers
  • Montalcino and the abbey

The third winery explains how the vines are looked after and how long the wine ages in oak. A final tasting comes before the drive back to Siena.
