Description
A Chianti wine tour from Siena that leaves the city behind for a day among vineyards, cypress-lined roads and rolling hills. The group rides in an air-conditioned minivan (eight people at most) or a minibus (thirty at most), with a multilingual tour leader, and the outing takes about five hours.
First you pull up at an old castle in the Tuscan hills, and discover the region's wine traditions. Then you reach a local winery for a guided cellar visit and a tasting of regional wines, Chianti Classico among them. Two wine estates are on the programme, one of them exclusive, and across the two tastings you pour as many as seven wines.
There is more to taste than wine. You also sample three extra virgin olive oils and two balsamic vinegars. Castellina in Chianti is where you get free time before heading back.
