Description
On this Vespa tour in Chianti you spend a long day, about seven hours, on a classic Italian automatic scooter with a 125cc engine, riding through vineyards and olive groves a few kilometres from San Gimignano. You share the scooter with one other person, so it works best for couples or friends. Riders carry their valid driving licence, and helmets and gloves are provided.
First the guides give a safety talk and let you try the scooter on a brief test ride, so that everyone feels at ease before leaving. A local guide then leads the group along country roads, with stops at panoramic viewpoints for photos and talk about local culture, traditions and Chianti wine.
The route includes two wineries, where you see traditional winemaking and taste regional wines. Lunch is served at a winery:
- starters of local cheese and bruschetta
- a pasta dish of the region
- wine tastings, with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to try too
After the meal the ride continues with more scenic stops before you return to the starting point. Previous scooter or motorcycle experience is required, and a riding test is held before departure. Drivers must be 18 or over and wear closed shoes and long trousers. A credit card is needed for a security pre-authorisation.
