Description

An e-bike tour in Chianti from Gaiole to Radda: a self-guided loop of about 27 km through vineyards and woods, with an Etruscan-Roman site and the abbey of Badia a Coltibuono.

This e-bike tour in Chianti is a loop you ride at your own pace, about 27 km long with roughly 500 m of climbing and a medium difficulty. You begin in Gaiole in Chianti: the rental point hands you an e-bike and a helmet, and an app on your phone leads the way with spoken directions and a map.

The first stretch crosses vineyards, olive groves and woods on the way to Radda in Chianti, a medieval village where a break and a stroll along its streets fit well. Next comes Cetamura, an archaeological site from the Etruscan and Roman eras, surrounded by greenery, and then Badia a Coltibuono, an abbey dating from the 11th century with vineyards and old gardens around it. You can visit, taste something or just rest, before riding back to Gaiole.

Roads are the catch. Nearly the whole itinerary uses asphalt shared with cars: about 18 km of state road, 6 km of ordinary road and 3 km of minor ones, so you must be comfortable cycling in traffic. Children can come only if they are very sure on a bike and used to such roads.

  • E-bike and helmet for four hours
  • Phone holder and app access
  • Help by phone from the rental point if needed

Bring your own smartphone and connect to the internet to download the app and audio beforehand. Food and drinks are extra.
