Description
The San Gimignano e-bike tour is a loop you ride at your own pace. After booking, you collect the e-bike and helmet at the rental point and follow the Outdoora app on your own phone, which gives turn-by-turn navigation with spoken directions, stops and points of interest. A phone holder comes with the bike, and the rental point offers remote help if something goes wrong.
The route starts in the village and climbs into the Val d'Elsa hills. It covers over twenty kilometres with about 490 metres of climbing, about 13 km of it on trails and 10 km on tarmac. Steady climbs and gravel sections make it a medium-level ride that needs a little confidence in the saddle.
Soon you are among vineyards, olive groves, fields and farmhouses, with the towers of San Gimignano in sight again and again. A marked viewpoint is the place for a photo with the medieval skyline behind you. Further on is Fattoria Poggio Alloro, an organic farm that works as a food stop: have a snack there, or reserve ahead for a tasting of wine and local produce. The way back to town stays scenic.
Plan on about three and a half hours. Download the app and its audio content before you start, which needs mobile data or Wi-Fi, and wear comfortable shoes. Food and drinks are not included.
