Description
A private lunch in San Gimignano here means going down into an ancient cave of Casa Vinicola Bruni, a historic wine house inside the town walls, a few steps from Piazza della Cisterna. In the past it stored wine and prized local goods; now it has become a dining room for your group alone.
To eat there is a spread of local cured meats and finocchiona, prosciutto, pecorino, and bruschetta topped with fresh tomato and basil, then homemade lasagna. Cantuccini with a glass of Vin Santo close the meal. Along the way the tale of Countess Ava and her seven handmaidens is told, the figures who inspire the wine collection of Poggio ai Laghi.
There is plenty to taste besides:
- Five wines, from extra dry sparkling to Chianti Classico and a Supertuscan
- Two vinegars, a Modena balsamic and a red onion one
- Three olive oils: classic, white truffle and chili pepper
The experience lasts around two hours and offers a table in a hidden corner of San Gimignano that most visitors never see. Tips are not included.
