Description
The San Gimignano food tour is a three-hour walk between four or more stops, with an English-speaking local guide who adds stories and traditions between tastings. The group is small, which keeps things relaxed.
It opens with Vernaccia, the historic white wine of the town, served with cured meats made from local wild boar. The next stop brings a first course, a choice of hand-rolled pici in tomato sauce topped with pecorino, or fresh tagliatelle in a sauce of saffron, gorgonzola and sausage. After that comes schiacciata, the Tuscan street food, baked fresh and filled with pecorino and cured meats.
- A second local wine at a later stop
- Water and two local drinks with alcohol, usually wine
- A closing selection of pastries tied to Tuscan celebrations and family customs
What is served can change with the season and the day. Tell the organisers about allergies or dietary needs at the time of booking. Expect 10 to 15 minutes of continuous walking at times, so the tour is not suited to people with mobility impairments. Extra food and drinks and hotel pick-up are not included.
