Description
This Siena Cathedral ticket and audio tour begins under the striped black-and-white marble of the Duomo, one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic. Inside, the mosaic floors and the works by Donatello, Michelangelo and Pinturicchio keep your eyes busy, and the ticket also opens the Piccolomini Library, where the Renaissance frescoes still glow with colour.
When you step back outside, your phone becomes the guide. The self-guided walk leads you through the cobbled lanes of the medieval centre, to the Medici Fortress, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana, Palazzo Salimbeni and Piazza del Campo. The commentary tells of medieval rivalries, of its artists and of traditions that are still alive.
- Entry to Siena Cathedral and the Piccolomini Library
- Audio walking tour in the app, with offline audio, maps and GPS navigation
- Commentary on the history, art and architecture of Siena
Download the app and the audio before you arrive, and bring your own headphones and a charged phone. The audio guide covers the city walk, not the cathedral interior, and there is no live guide. Shoulders and knees must be covered to enter. Allow one to two hours for the cathedral, plus the time you want for the walk.
