Description
A Chianti Classico wine tasting near Siena, on the estate of Fattoria Lornano, starts underground: the guided visit takes you into the cellar beneath a 15th-century villa, where the guide explains the traditions behind the estate's winemaking. The hour then moves to the surface, to a former 19th-century stable among the fields between Siena and Monteriggioni.
Here a local wine expert leads the tasting of three wines:
- an IGT Toscana Rosato called Etel
- a DOCG Chianti Classico, with scores from Luca Maroni, Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling
- an IGT Super Tuscan, also rated by those critics
Extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar from the estate come to the table alongside the wines, to taste next to the wines. If a bottle wins you over, the estate sells its products on site and ships them worldwide.
Plan on about an hour. Getting to the winery is up to you, since transport is not included, and bookings need a minimum of two people. The tasting is offered in English, Italian and Spanish. It is not suitable for wheelchair users or for anyone under 18.
