Description
This organic winery tour near Siena is a lesson in the open air called "Vine, Wine and Life". The estate sits on the Tuscan hills about 2 km from the centre of Siena, and the tour runs for three hours.
You begin in the organic vineyards, where the guide goes through the main steps of the vine's year and explains how farming with low environmental impact works as a whole ecosystem. Then you move into the historical cellar to see the chemical, physical and microbiological processes behind a quality wine.
In the sensory tasting room you try four organic wines typical of the area, learning to notice how complex they are. The visit ends with a light lunch of fresh seasonal Tuscan specialities, chosen to show what food and wine can do for each other. Each part is explained on the spot, in the vineyard, in the cellar and in the tasting room, in simple terms, so complicated ideas stay easy to follow.
