Description
This San Gimignano wine tour puts two wineries and the town of the towers into a single day, with a local guide leading the way and the transport already sorted. You start either at the Tuscany on Wheels base, a few kilometres outside San Gimignano, or in the town itself, depending on the option you booked.
The first winery lies about an hour outside Florence, where a passionate wine producer walks you through five wines: Chianti Classico, Vernaccia and a Super Tuscan among them. Between glasses you taste a 30-year-old balsamic vinegar and a truffle extra virgin olive oil, and learn how to pick out the flavours. The second stop looks over the towers of San Gimignano, in vineyards known for Vernaccia white. The winemakers lead you through vines and cellar, explain how wine and oil are made and which foods suit them, and pour a Vernaccia, a rosé and a Chianti Colli Senesi.

Before heading back you wander through San Gimignano, where the medieval towers built by wealthy families still shape the skyline and some can be climbed for views of the countryside.
